Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are working a violent incident that broke out Saturday evening at the Howe Community Park area at the time deputies were dissolving an unsanctioned gathering of hundreds of attendees.
What Led to the Shooting
Deputies were first called to the park at about 6:30 in the evening after being notified of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Not long after, a second caller reported describing a reported physical confrontation taking place at the location.
An overhead unit flew over the park but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, authorities discovered that several hundred individuals had packed into the park in an unauthorized manner.
The Shooting Itself
Deputies moved to clear the area by encircling the gathering and announcing over their public address systems ordering attendees to go home. About 15 minutes were spent for the crowd to leave.
At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were fired. The barrage of gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Officers immediately began finding those who had been shot.
Those Who Were Hit
Ultimately, four individuals were identified as having gunshot wounds. The shooting victims — including a female and three males all reportedly in their 20s — were airlifted or driven to Sacramento area hospitals. click here Medical personnel confirmed that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. As of last report, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and helped triage the four victims on location.
Evidence at the Scene
Most of the gunfire appears to have unfolded near Cottage Way close to the Home Depot store located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel recovered extra shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet damage were observed in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the Home Depot. These findings confirmed that a second shooter had been aiming south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The store itself was temporarily locked down during the incident. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night.
Suspect Information
Details gathered through scanner monitoring indicated that a vehicle identified as a Kia was pulled over in the Solano County area. Four occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to return them to Sacramento for questioning. Video evidence revealed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
